Preschool
First Presbyterian ELC engages the following components: social skills, language skills, executive function, and emotional and learning self-regulation. With regard to social skills, the primary focus for children is the ability to empathize and interact successfully within their peer groups.
Children at this age also need the ability to have adequate language skills in order to benefit from experiences facilitating their cognitive, educational, and social development.
Executive function allows children the ability to hold and manipulate information in the brain, plan and regulate one’s behavior, problem-solve, and be creative. Adapting behaviors depending on the situation, maintaining impulse control, and shifting the child's attention all relate to emotional and learning self-regulation.
